As an artist, Sarah Rupesinghe strives to create unique and imaginative art pieces every day.
Sarah is predominantly a mixed-media painter, that is mostly noted for depicting expressive stories and treasured moments of human or animal forms exhibiting their unique characteristics. Her paintings capture movement and emotions, rooted in her deep appreciation for the beauty and complexity of the natural world, and beyond.
As she paints, writings and inspired songs can emerge as a blueprint for her work. Each piece invites viewers to explore their own emotions and personal narratives within the layers of her work, creating a dynamic dialogue between the art and its audience.
Sarah’s recent inspiration involves using objects and texture to create 3-d effects on canvas. This originated from her many years as a creative floral designer. She incorporates preserved or collected elements from the natural world that often go unnoticed.
Her ability to weave these re-cycled elements into her art creates an immersive experience of discovery and wonder, where the unexpected becomes a pivotal part of her storytelling. The ‘Treasures Within’ series has redefined her creative process, allowing her to merge the tactile with the visual, crafting pieces that resonate on both aesthetic and emotional levels.
In 2009 Sarah felt a powerful longing to pick up the paintbrush once again, having not painted for over 30 years, since completing an art diploma after leaving School. Her art journey began as a slow process, as she navigated and evolved through a challenging period of her life. Sarah, both self-taught and with an aid of small courses, progressed from creating portraits, (including pet portraits) and commissions, to exhibiting and selling cards locally. Her artistic voice and style are now reaching a broader audience.
Sarah works from her garden studio located in the Chiltern countryside.
Sarah’s work will be displayed at Spear Travels – 5 Greyhound Walk, Thame OX9 3DY from 11-19 October.
