As an artist, Nigel Hawthorn strives to create unique and imaginative art pieces every day.
Nigel Hawthorn is a painter and sculptor based in the UK. Without formal intense training, he’s constantly learning, taking ideas from all around. He works in oils, acrylics and sculpts in clay – as happy to use brushes, knives or a spray can.
“Our world is full of images and each image leaves questions – why this background, why that composition, why a pearl earring, would we like the Cavalier if he was frowning? I’ve always loved considering why a subject is chosen, what a particular colour tells me and how I would describe a particular thought or frame a specific image. After a lifetime of marketing and presenting, its time for me to pose some of these questions. With my art, I want people to stand back but also feel the need to come close to see the details. Sometimes the question is more around what isn’t there – and in my sculptures I hope people look at the negative space between the clay bones of the structure. I can’t imagine a day without sketching, painting or other art creation – working on multiple items simultaneously – my studio is untidy, cluttered and full of fizz, like my mind.” – Nigel Hawthorn on his art
Nigel is a committee member of Buckingham Art for All and was recently exhibiting at Bucks Art Week. He has exhibited in France and has works in California, Texas and across the UK.
Nigel’s work will be displayed at Brothers Salon – 16 Buttermarket, Thame OX9 3EP from 11-19 October.
