Marie Jones

Marie is a fibre artist living in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. She creates original artwork, combining wet felting, needle felting, fabric collage, free motion machine embroidery and hand stitching techniques.

Marie is a self taught artist. Her original works combine wet felting, needle felting, fabric collage, free motion machine embroidery and hand stitching techniques. Her love for woolcrafts began when, aged 8, her Gran taught her to knit and crochet. She can still remember the sounds and smells of the coal fire roaring away during the winter. She was bitten by the creative bug.As a Mum of three she transitioned her hobby to business about 3 years ago. Her children were growing up and she had a dream of creating art for a living rather than returning to her science career. It’s been a very steep learning curve!  With a keen interest in colour and texture and a passion to learn new techniques, she has been developing her style ever since.

Nature inspires her: big skies; the dramatic coastlines and wild Scottish landscapes of her childhood; and now, the gently rolling Chiltern hills. Marie feels most creative when she am outdoors, immersed in our beautiful landscapes. Being at the seaside also makes her happy. In her work she recreates that feeling of wonder, evoking the beauty of our wild spaces, with contemporary felt, textile and embroidery techniques. She is also inspired by the colours of abstract landscape artists and textile artists.

Marie’s work will be at Sally Evans Artist & Makers Fair
