Meet Katie, a Thame based illustrator and designer and the face behind Mama Bear Creates.
After experiencing postnatal depression after the birth of her second son in 2017, Katie found solace in crafting which became a way of coping with her anxiety. Katie had never thought of herself as creative growing up but found so much joy in stamping and colouring handmade greetings cards, she wanted to share them with others. As time went on, Mama Bear Creates evolved and in 2021 Katie invested in her trusty iPad and Apple pencil and began the process of teaching herself to draw digitally. She continues to learn every day and her style changes all the time, but she is loving the creative journey she is on. She finds inspiration on her Instagram feed and Pinterest and through her love of puns!
Katie’s products are a reflection of her unique style and personality, and her love for bright colours and playful illustrations is evident in every piece. What sets Katie apart is her commitment to using her art as a tool for mental health. She understands the healing power of creativity and has made it her mission to create products that not only look good but also have a positive impact on people’s mental well-being whether that be with a cute art print or a punny greeting card.
Her dedication and hard work have not gone unnoticed. Katie was recently recognized as the runner-up for Best Local Independent Business at the Little Ankle Biters Awards for Oxfordshire. This acknowledgment is a testament to her commitment to providing quality products and excellent customer service.
When Katie isn’t working, she loves to spend time with her Husband and their two sons. Being by the sea is her favourite place as she finds comfort in watching and listening to the waves. As a family they also love to camp and have a break from everyday life. Taking some time out in nature is always a boost, mentally and creatively so Katie is always ready to come back home and carry on creating.
