Kashmira Patel

As an artist, Kashmira Patel strives to create unique and imaginative art pieces every day.

Kashmira loves to work with her hands – infusing life and strength into the ceramics she creates. Her forms abound with strength and energy, and organically goes with the ‘flow’ – as she likes to play with the clay and let it take form with shapes and textures as she goes along. Kashmira’s creations stem from a single idea in mind, in a process that is not methodical, led by the heart and feelings. Aiming to be imperfectly perfect, with rough and smooth textures, the works are tactile, symbolic, and intriguing to the viewer.

Kashmira’s passion with clay evolved after many years of brush stroking techniques on bisque ware. She loves creating organic forms, defying the normal structures of figurines, bowls or any other daily use items.

She finds that working with oxides, greens and blues gives a great sense of staying connected to the earth and water and the works emerge as grounded and minimal pieces that meld with nature. Groggy surfaces that contrast with smooth and crackle glazes. Her inspiration also comes from the Japanese philosophy of ‘wabi-sabi’ –‘ imperfectly perfect’.
She handles every process myself, interacting with clay until the piece is complete. The process of creating by hand is what flows within Kashmira.
Her sculptures tend be linear, feminine with sense of flow and energy in them.

Some venues where her sculptures and ceramics have been displayed include: Modern Art Oxford, Oxford Art Society, and West Ox Arts. Kashmira has also been a regular participant in the Oxfordshire Art weeks.

Kashmira’s work will be displayed at Tim Russ Estate Agents – 112 High Street from 11-19 October as well as being among the artists at Sally Evans Artists & Makers Fair, hosted in the Thame Town Hall Upper Chamber OX9 3DP  on Friday 17th October.
