Debbie Farrell is a practising Textile Artist. Having studied Textile Design at degree level, she went on to design fabrics before teaching textiles to A – Level. She now spends all her time creating her own work in embroidery. She specialises in freemotion embroidery and produces landscapes of Oxfordshire and Cornwall.
She is particularly inspired by woodlands, bluebells, snowscapes and foggy, misty woods. She is influenced by sunlight and the light and shadows that it creates amongst the trees. The colours of the threads are built up and blended together to produce a textural depiction of a landscape without compromising on the vibrancy. She also uses metallic threads, such as golds and silvers to highlight her work, catching the light once a piece is hung.
She participates in Oxfordshire artweeks and won the runner up prize in 2019 at the Oxford open for her Winter in the Woods embroidery. Debbie has a garden studio at her home in Ewelme and has exhibited her textiles there, as well as in London, Ascot and Wargrave.
