Alex Rooney is a talented illustrator who graduated from Birmingham City University with a degree in Visual Communications. Renowned for her detailed and vibrant illustrations, Alex predominantly works with watercolors and gouache, later refining her pieces using Procreate and Adobe Photoshop.

Her artistic journey has been deeply influenced by beloved children’s book illustrators such as Quinn Blake, Lauren Child, and Nick Sharratt. This inspiration is evident in her playful style, a trait that was further nurtured during her time as a primary school teacher at Barley Hill school. Alex’s passion for picture books shines through in her whimsical and engaging illustrations.

In addition to her illustration work, Alex has contributed her artistic talents as a pottery designer and painter for Isis Ceramics in Oxfordshire. She has also created a unique range of cards for the popular online retailer Moonpig.

Beyond her collaborations, Alex sells her artwork through her Etsy shop and accepts personal commissions. She harbours a particular interest in expanding her portfolio to include children’s book illustrations and event or wedding stationery, where her love for bright colours and detailed designs can truly flourish.

Alex’s work will be displayed at The Book House – 93 High Street, Thame from 15-19 October.
